Our philosophy is simple: calculator first, then gear if you want it. When you open a SmokedRight page, the tool is right there. Enter your numbers, get your answer, and plan your cook. Below the calculator, on some pages, you will find a small block with three gear suggestions from Amazon that we would actually recommend. That block is clearly labeled, never above the tool, and never between your input and your result.

Our smoking time estimates are based on established guidelines from the USDA Roasting Charts, research from Texas A&M University Meat Science program, and consensus data from the competitive barbecue community. We use standard rates (e.g., 75 minutes per pound for brisket at 225F) adjusted for smoker temperature and wrap method. These are planning estimates, not exact predictions. Individual results vary based on the specific piece of meat, ambient conditions, and smoker characteristics. Always use a meat thermometer as your final doneness indicator.
